Everyone wants to get super ripped. But many people are doing this at the expense of their health. Being ripped is one thing, but if you're not healthy, then whats the point? Many professional bodybuilders have been quoted as saying, "It's not how you feel, it's how you look."
Well, guess what. I want to look and feel good at the same time. You don't think it's possible? It's possible with bodyweight training. Bodyweight training is one of the easiest ways to burn fat and develop a better looking body. Ever since I began training with just my bodyweight, I've lost weight and improved my health. For years, I followed every piece of advice in the bodybuilding magazines I used to read. And for years, I went to the gym religiously, driving after just one goal: get ripped. What actually happened was that I became fatter, was constantly tired, and was completely unhealthy.
After a blood test ordered from my doctor, I noticed that my triglycerides were high, and my cholesterol was borderline. I thought I was eating healthy. But I guess the 6 times per day eating schedule was getting to me. I also used the "1 pound of protein per bodyweight" recommendation. I told what happened to a friend of mine, who also used to train with my in Karate a few years earlier. He told me he still trains with the exercises they made you do in Karate:pushups and bodyweight squats. I looked at my friend and noticed that he was in great shape.
After that day, I began training with my friend. He would combine some Karate drills with basic bodyweight movements and train around 20-30 minutes at a time. It was a very refreshing change, as I was training up to 2 hours at a time in a commercial gym. Later that summer, I quit the gym, and started training with my own bodyweight, all on my own. Sometimes my friend and I will still meet up and have pushup and chinup contests. I win 90% of the time! Bodyweight exercises have increased my strength, endurance and flexibility throughout my entire body.
Instead of hitting the gym for 2 hours, I just put together a handful of bodyweight movements and start jumping, crawling, pushing, and pulling through a body weight workout. There's nothing like an intense bodyweight workout to get the day started!
